Can I bring my child/children to my appointment?
For safety reasons, no child under the age of 10 years may accompany you during your treatment. We love children but do not have the facilities to care for them and we regret that we cannot guarantee their safety in a professional environment. We also do not want to compromise the relaxation of other guests who may be having a relaxing treatment.
Your understanding is greatly appreciated.
EYELASH EXTENSIONS - FAQs
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash Extensions should not be confused with strip lashes or 'individual lashes' which are little clusters of lashes.
Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions are single synthetic eyelashes which are applied to every single one of your natural eyelashes to give you a flawless, perfect mascara looking lash, that will last for up to 4-6 weeks. Many people will not even realise they arent your own and they are lightweight, so you wont even know they are there.
We now also offer Volume Eyelash Extensions. This is were between 2-6 super thin, lightweight lashes are picked up in a 'fan' and applied to a single natural eyelash, to create a thick, full, fluffy set of lashes, but are completely lightweight.
Can anybody apply eyelash extensions?
Absolutely not! Eyelash Extensions should only ever be applied by a fully trained eyelash technician who is certified and insured. You really shouldnt mess around when it comes to your eyes. And dont be afraid to ask for proof of insurance and qualifications. Genuine lash techicians would never be offended.
How are lash extensions applied?
A single natural eyelash is isolated using specialist tweezers then a synthetic lash is glued to the top of your natural lash, approx 1mm from the eyelid so neither the glue or lash come into contact with the skin.
Do I require a patch test?
Yes! ALL NEW clients will require a patch test at least 48hrs prior to having their eyelash extensions done. This is free of charge and takes around 10 minutes. 3 short lashes are applied to each eye, to ensure there is no reaction to the adhesive. Even if you have had eyelash extensions before, you are strongly recommended to attend a patch test as all adhesives are different, therefore, just because you are fine with one, it doesnt mean youre not allergic to a different brand.
Patch tests are also required for any tinting and lash lifting and 3D brow treatments - at least 48hrs before the treatment.
Can I still wear make-up?
Yes. Eyeshadow and eyeliner is not a problem, however these must be removed by using oil free make-up removers. I dont recommend wearing mascara as many mascaras have oil in them, which can loosen the adhesive, causing your lash extensions to fall out much quicker. Very few ladies feel the need to wear mascara with extensions, as they have a much better effect with the lash extensions alone. I also must make it clear that we will not offer top-ups on any clients who have mascara on. It proves extremely difficult to apply a synthetic lash to a natural lash which is coated in mascara.
Can I curl or perm my lash extensions?
No. You will most likely find that you wont want to have them curled due to the natural curl of the synthetic lash. Using an eyelash curler can lessen the life of the extensions and can damage them or your own natural lashes. Perms or Lifts will not make any difference as they are not strong enough to curl a synthetic fabric. The chemicals may also react with the adhesive.
How long with the semi-permanent lash extensions lash?
Eyelash Extensions can last up to 4-6 weeks as this is the average cycle of our natural eyelashes, although you will require top-ups every 2-3 weeks to keep them looking full. Your natural lash cycle from start to finish is approximately 4-6 weeks so inevitably the synthetic lashes will shed when your natural lashes do. It is not unusual to lose a few lashes within the first few days, as we cant be sure how far through the cycle your natural lashes are when we apply the extensions. Your lifestyle can also make a difference to how long they last. Ladies who work in a lot of heat, steam or oil (perhaps a kitchen for example) may find their lashes do not last as long as someone who works in an air conditioned office. Certain medications may also reduce how long they last. Eyelash Extensions WILL NOT last for 12 weeks. This is false advertising by anyone that says they will. This is simply not possible!
How can I help prolong the life of my eyelash extensions?
Here is my recommended advice;
- Avoid coming into contact with water, steam, heat for the first 48hrs
- Do not use a steam room or sauna for the first 48 hours to allow the glue to cure
- Try sleeping on your back to avoid crushing your extensions in your pillow
- Be gentle and respect your new lashes. Avoid rubbing, picking and pulling your lashes.
- Avoid getting the caught in towels and clothing
- When drying your face, do not rub your face, instead pat or blot and apply gentle pressure to closed eyes then allow the extensions to dry naturally
- Avoid oil based eye make-up and make-up removers
- Brush them with a soft lash comb/brush to separate them, only when needed.
- Swimming daily may loosen them quicker than normal.
- Do not perm/lift or curl the extensions
- Avoid wearing mascara as this can lessen the life of the extensions
- All clients will be given an aftercare advice card to take away with them to remind them of these things.
- Keep them clean!! Dont be afraid to clean your lashes. Bacteria can build up very quickly around the eye area, therefore, ensure you gently clean your eyes and blot the lashes dry.
What are top-ups and how often will I need them?
When a natural eyelash has fallen out (due to the eyelash cycle) it will obviously take an eyelash extension with it. Therefore after a few weeks you will require top-ups, every 2-3 weeks if you would like to achieve a consistently full fresh set of lashes. Eyelash Extensions Plymouth take the time to remove any eyelash extensions that have either grown out too far or are not sitting correctly. Top-ups are only valid for clients that return within 2-3 weeks and have at least 50% of their lash extensions on. Anything over 3 weeks, or if you have less than 50% of lash extensions on, prices will go back to full set price. Please inform us as soon as you can if you require a longer slot. We are regularly fully booked, therefore if we are not informed in advance, we may not have time to do a full set in a "top-up slot"
If you have recently undergone any eye surgery or had any sort of eye infection, you will not be able to have eyelash extensions applied until the area is completely healed.
Is there any reason why I can't have eyelash extensions applied?
If you consider yourself to fall in one of the categories below, eyelash extensions may not be for you;
- An "eye rubber" due to allergies such as hayfever
- Rubbing or Picking your eyes/eyelashes as a habit
- Sensitivity around the eye area after using skin care or makeup
- If you have no eyelashes due to medical conditions such as Alopecia
- If you take certain prescribed medications (speak to us in advance to discuss this)
If you use prescribed medicated eye drops or ointment this may coat the lashes and cause them to clump.
It can also be difficult to apply eyelash extensions to very curly eyelashes. However, please get in contact to discuss any of these issues if you are unsure.
* - We offer a FREE removal service for your first set if you are unhappy in any way. This must be carried out within 1 week of your original appointment.
I had eyelash extensions applied somewhere else and I am unhappy with them. Can they be fixed by 'Lashings of Beauty and Training'?
We prefer not to mix our work with other peoples work so it is advised that you either allow your extensions to naturally come off or contact the us to discuss the options of having the extensions removed before your appointment or before having a new set applied. If your eyes are red and sore from the incorrectly applied eyelash extensions that were applied elsewhere, I would advise resting your eyes from extensions for approximately 3-4 weeks before having a professional set reapplied at 'Lashings of Beauty and Training'
What should I do before my eyelash extension appointment?
If you have fair eyelashes it is recommended to have them tinted before your eyelash extension appointment which we are able to offer. A tint patch test will also be required at least 24hrs in advance to ensure you have no reaction to the tint. Please arrive with no makeup on. Do not perm/lift or curl your eyelashes before your eyelash extension appointment.
If you wear contact lenses please bring your contact lens case as your lenses will need to be removed for the duration of the procedure.
Can I bring my children to the appointment?
For safety reasons, no child under the age of 12yrs may accompany you during your treatment. We love children, but do not have the facilities to care for them and we regret that we cannot guarantee their safety in a professional environment. We also do not want to compromise the relaxation of other guests.
Your understanding is greatly appreciated.
Can I change my appointment after I have paid my deposit?
The deposit secures the day and time that you have booked. It is a non-refundable/non-transferable deposit. This is to avoid people cancelling last minute or requesting to change their appointment at short notice and leaving us no time to fill the space. If less than two weeks notice is given and I am unable to fill the space with another client, the deposit will be lost.
If sufficient notice is given (i.e. 2 weeks or more) I am more than happy to change the appointment to another day/time subject to availability.
